DIApedia is a privately held medical device company based in State College, Pennsylvania. Since its inception in 2000, the company has developed three products aimed at improving health outcomes for people suffering complications associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy:
-
CAD/CAM Therapeutic Footwear System for designing therapeutic insoles.
-
Load-Relieving Dressing System for healing diabetic ulcers.
-
Haptic Lens three-dimensional imaging device for obtaining plantar foot shape.
To date, the company has secured over $4.3 million of combined support from SBIR grants (National Institutes of Health), investors, and product-development partners. The company has been awarded six SBIR grants, and currently has three Phase II projects underway.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimates that there are currently more than 20 million people with diabetes in the US alone. Complications relating to the diabetic foot are estimated to contribute to more than 80,000 amputations, and place an annual burden of more than $10 billion on the US healthcare system.
DIApedia anticipates that it will introduce new products in 2006 to reduce the impact of this growing healthcare problem, and expects to raise additional capital to support its product introductions.
